2009 RBC "Student Stimulus" Contest Official Contest Rules and Regulations

This contest is sponsored by Royal Bank of Canada (the "Bank" or the "Sponsor")

  1. To Enter: There are two (2) methods of entry:

    i) Full-time students who open a qualifying product or account (defined in Section 4 below) between July 15, 2009 at 12:00:01am Eastern Standard Time (EST) and October 31, 2009 at 11:59:59 pm EST (the "Contest Period") will automatically be entered for a chance to win one (1) of ninety-two (92) cash prizes of $1,000 CDN awarded over 92 days.

    ii) NO PURCHASE ENTRY: To enter without opening a qualifying product or account, submit your hand-printed name, address, city, province or territory, postal code, day and evening telephone numbers, email address, and a unique and original 100-word or more handwritten essay on "How to Stimulate the Student Economy", and mail-in a postage stamped envelope to: "RBC Student Stimulus" Contest, PO Box 73119 White Shields Postal Outlet, 2300 Lawrence Ave East, Scarborough, ON, M1P 4Z5. Limit of two (2) unique, mail-in, entries per person during the Contest Period. No purchase entries will be entered into the contest for the draw the week the entry is received. All no purchase entries must be postmarked by the last day of the Contest. No mechanical reproductions permitted. All entries become the property of the Bank and will not be returned or acknowledged.

  2. Draws: A draw will be held once each week (the "Contest Week") during the Contest Period . Draws will take place at or around 4:00pm E.S.T. every Tuesday starting August 4, 2009. One potential winner will be drawn at random for each day of the previous Contest Week (see prize chart below) from among all eligible entries received from the start of the Contest Period up to midnight of 3 days before each Tuesday draw. Maximum of one (1) prize per person for the Contest Period. One winner will be announced each day starting August 7, 2009 at rbc.com/windaily.

  3. Eligibility: To be eligible to win a prize, an entrant must be a full time student who is at least 17 years of age at the start of the Contest Period and a Canadian resident. In addition an eligible entrant will have opened a new qualifying product or account (existing RBC clients switching accounts are not eligible) during the Contest Period. Only primary account holders will qualify on joint accounts or accounts with guarantors. Qualifying accounts must remain in good standing throughout the contest period. Employees, and those with whom they are domiciled, of Royal Bank of Canada or its affiliates, advertising or promotional agencies, or the independent contest judging organization are not eligible. Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations.

  4. Qualifying Products and Accounts.

    For this Contest:

    i) A "Qualifying Bank Account" means and is strictly limited to: the RBC No Limit Banking for Students® account and the RBC Student Banking® account, offered by the Sponsor to its personal clients.

    ii) A "Qualifying Visa* Account" means and is strictly limited to: the RBC Royal Bank® Visa Classic II Student card and the RBC Royal Bank Visa Classic Student card.

    Any type of Qualifying Bank Account, or Qualifying Visa Account must remain open and in good standing throughout the Contest Period for an entrant to receive a prize.

  5. Prizes: There will be ninety-two (92) Prizes available to be won, each consisting of $1,000.00 CDN. One prize will be announced each day beginning August 7, 2009 for 92 days. Each prize will be awarded as a cheque in the amount of $1,000.00 CDN.

  6. Odds: The odds of winning a prize depends on the total number of eligible entries received before each weekly draw. Contestants will automatically receive one entry for each new qualifying product(s) and/or account(s).

  7. Winner Notification/Prize Awards: Before being declared an official winner, each selected eligible entrant will be contacted by telephone by the independent contest judging organization as listed in the records of the Sponsor or as provided on the No-Purchase entry submission. Potential winners must correctly answer unaided, a mathematical skill-testing question to be posed by telephone at the telephone number provided on the entry, at a mutually convenient time. If a selected entrant incorrectly answers the skill-testing question or cannot be contacted within three (3) business days of the applicable weekly draw, the entry will be disqualified for that week and placed back in the pool for the next weekly draw, and another eligible entry will be randomly selected until all prizes for that week have been awarded.

    Each potential winner will be required to sign [or if under the age of majority at the time of winning, the parent or legal guardian if the potential winner] a standard Declaration of Compliance with Rules, Publicity and Liability Release form and consent in the form and manner provided, consenting to the use of their name, city or province/territory and/or photograph, without further compensation, in any publicity carried out by the Sponsor and/or its affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies relating to this contest, including posting to a website and releasing the Sponsor, the contest organizer and independent contest organization, its promotional agencies and their respective affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents, from any liability relating to this contest or any prizes.

    If a potential winner fails to sign and return the required documents within forty eight (48) hours of receiving it by fax or email, the Sponsor reserves the right to void that entry and select another eligible entrant until the prizes are awarded. Prizes must be accepted by the winners as awarded, and are non-transferable. If not accepted as awarded, prize will be forfeited. Any substitution of the Prize will be at the sole discretion of the Sponsor. Any taxes, fees or incidental charges applicable to any prize(s) shall be the sole responsibility of the winners of that prize(s).

  8. Additional Terms: By participating, entrants agree to a) these Official Contest Rules and acknowledges that the data and records of the Sponsor shall be deemed final and conclusive on all matters and in all respects; and b) release, discharge, indemnify and hold the Bank, each of its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, and employees, including its promotional agencies and the independent contest judging organization, from any liability, claims, damages, demands, actions, or causes of action whatsoever which they, their heirs, successors, assigns, executors, or administrators may now or hereafter have directly or indirectly against them or any of them in respect of or relating to the Contest and/or the acceptance or use, misuse, or possession of any prize. By accepting a prize, winners agree to the Sponsor's and its designees' use of their names, city, province or territory of residence and/or photograph for advertising and publicity purposes without further compensation.

  9. Limitation of Liability: The Sponsor shall not be responsible for print or typographical errors in any Contest-related materials; for stolen, lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, illegible, or postage-due non-purchase entries; or qualified bank accounts that are posted late or incorrectly or are lost due to computer or electronic malfunction. The Sponsor reserves the right, subject to the approval of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux du Québec, to cancel or modify the Contest, including extending the Contest Period, without individual notice for any reason including, but not limited to, fraud or technical failures that compromise the integrity of the Contest as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion.

  10. Privacy Policy: By entering this Contest, you permit the Sponsor, its agents and/or representatives to collect the information submitted with your entry and to use it to administer the Contest. . For additional information please see our Privacy policy at http://www.rbc.com/privacysecurity/.

  11. For Québec Residents Only: Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux du Québec for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
