// DEALS, DEALS EVERYWHERE.

Deals, deals, everywhere.

Red tags, BOGO, price slashers... These days, it seems like there are deals to be had everywhere. Why pay full price if you don't have to? Use your shopping savvy to get more for less.

  • Grab a BOGO buddy. "Two-for" or "buy-one-get-one" sales can tempt you to shell out extra for stuff you don't really need, unless you shop with a friend and split the savings.
  • Shop online. Many online stores offer lower prices than their bricks-and-mortar outlets. Just be sure to check the shipping charges first, as well as duty and taxes if you're ordering from the U.S.
  • Get in the loop. If you have a favourite store, restaurant or service, get on their mailing or email list to get the scoop on upcoming sales and exclusive specials.
  • Say the magic word. Just mentioning that you're a student can unlock all kinds of discounts and perks for restaurants, theatres, sports events, travel, transit and stores — even if they're not advertised.
  • Earn rewards. Ask if your favourite coffee shop, music store or stationery outlet has a "frequent buyer" card where you get a bonus after you make a certain number of purchases. Double up, by paying with a rewards credit card like the RBC Royal Bank Visa* Student Classic II.
  • Shop the clearance aisle. Almost every type of retailer has a bargain bin of some sort, including online stores, grocery stores, travel retailers, department stores. Check it first.
  • Book the cheap seats. Live theatre or sporting events often make special discounts available for students or last-minute sales.
  • Go last minute. You can often save on air travel or packages by booking three weeks or less in advance.
